What can a leaf bud tell us about environmental change?

November 8, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 10:30 am

What can a leaf bud tell us about environmental change? What we are learning from Nature’s Notebook volunteer observations.

Thousands of volunteer observers across the country are contributing to an important effort to better understand phenology – the timing of seasonal events of plants and animals. The data that they collect can inform managers when to remove invasive species, tell public health practitioners when to expect allergy season, and shine light on how climate change is impacting leafing, flowering and fruiting of plants around us. In this webinar, the USA National Phenology Network’s Erin Posthumus will share how groups like Oregon Season Trackers and other Master Gardeners are contributing to this critical work, and how scientists and resource managers are using the data that you collect.
